Small Pet Select UK Was Born From Our Love Of Pets And The Dream To BringThe Freshest and Highest Quality Products To Our Furry Friends In The United Kingdom

In order to understand the story of Small Pet Select UK, it's best we start at the beginning...

Small Pet Select first started in a small town in the US back in 2012.

Owner Laurie Gordon had adopted a sweet little cavy, and named her Lizzie. This little piggy was picky, though, and would not eat hay. Laurie tried all the store brands, but Lizzie refused them all. Laurie knew Lizzie needed hay to stay healthy, so she worried. Tried more brands. Worried more.

Her son Billy got an idea. The family lived in Ellensburg WA, USA the hay capital of the world! Surely Billy would be able to find hay Lizzie would eat happily. He brought the guinea pig nice fresh Washington hay, and she chowed down.

Billy says it is funny looking back: here they all were living in the valley with the best hay farms on earth, and his Mom was buying little plastic bags of dry stale hay. He figured there must be other pet owners all over the country facing this same problem, and he was in the perfect place to fix it.

Billy began sending samples out, and long story short, people (and animals) LOVED the hay and asked Billy to make it available in bigger quantities. So, he did!

"My guinea pig won't eat any hay. Please ship to the UK!"

 

Flash forward 6 years later to 2018. Small Pet Select was still a small, family owned company but we had grown up some since the days of Billy sending out samples.

We were now known as the 'go-to' for high quality pet supplies in the U.S., and word had gotten out to pet parents across the pond. We received email after email from customers hoping they could get their hands on some of the hay they had heard so much about.

Those asks quickly turned to pleads and those persistent paw parents led the way in us embarking on our biggest adventure yet!

In November 2018, we jumped on a plane and opened up a warehouse just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. We were thrilled...we did it! We were finally be able to bring the finest hay in the world to the United Kingdom.

And now...here we are! Our move to the UK has shown us that our love for animals is shared with so many people. We’re so thankful for the community of rescues and small animal lovers that have welcomed us.

Needless to say, we truly love what we do and can't wait to see what the future holds for us next.
